Lifetime making a behind-the-scenes 'Saved by the Bell' movie

The cast of 'The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story'

The cast of 'The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story'

When you hear the words "Saved by the Bell movie," what do you think about? Perhaps an epilogue to the beloved '90s series that catches up with all our favorite Bayside High alums? Maybe it'll star the erstwhile AC Slater himself, a still ridiculously fit Mario Lopez; or maybe Mark Paul-Gosselar will take a break from his TNT show Franklin & Bash to play preppy Zack Morris again?

Well, you'd be wrong. Lifetime is producing a Saved by the Bell movie that'll air on Labor Day, but it's not what you think. Called The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, it's a "What really happened behind the scenes" story centered on the experiences off-camera of the six young actors involved in the show. That means the TV movie will star six fresh-faced (relative) unknowns as the people who played the Saved by the Bell characters. Weird! For what it's worth, Dylan Everett (Degrassi: The Next Generation) is playing Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Julian Works (Paranormal Activity) is Mario Lopez, Sam Kindseth (Shameless) is Dustin Diamond, Alyssa Lynch is Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, Tiera Skovbye (Supernatural) is Elizabeth Berkley and Taylor Russell McKenzie is Lark Voorhies.

Apparently, the movie is going to be based on interviews with people who worked on the show and Dustin Diamond's 2009 memoir Behind the Bell, in which he suggested all sorts of scandalous things happened on the set in the '90s. Sounds suitably juicy enough for a Lifetime movie.
