If you decide what you're going to watch based on award nominations, there's a good chance you have a lot to catch up on. Thursday morning, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association nominated many newbies for Golden Globes.

The most surprising rookies on the list: streaming channels. Netflix leads with eight nominations, followed by HBO, Starz and Amazon, each with five. Shows American Crime, Fargo, Mr. RobotOutlanderTransparent and Wolf Hall all earned three nominations.

As for series that should probably be on your radar now that the nominations are out: Amazon's comedy Mozart in the Jungle, a series from Jason Schwartzman about life in the New York Philharmonic. Castmember Gael Garcia Bernal is nominated for lead actor in comedy series.

In the comedy category, Rachel Bloom got a nod for her brilliant work on the CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. If you're not watching this lovely musical comedy, you should be. It's a nuanced show full of heart and funnies. She joins last year's winner for lead actress in a comedy series, Gina Rodriguez from Jane the Virgin, also on the CW.

Over in the drama categories, USA's Mr. Robot got lots of love. It's up for best series, best actor (Rami Malek) and supporting actor (Christian Slater) and all deserve a win. Missing from the lead actress category: Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany, who continues to blow us away with her growing number of performances on the BBC America show. But that's okay, because Starz's Outlander got some much-deserved love.

And finally, St. Petergburg's own Patrick Wilson is nominated for best actor in a limited series for his role as the smartest small-town cop Lou Solverson on FX's Fargo. The show, and fellow castmember Kirsten Dunst are also up for a globe. The show won last year and will probably get a repeat win.

The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards will air on Jan. 10 on NBC. Ricky Gervais will host. Here's the complete list of TV nominees:
