MTV's 'True Life' premiering episode on Pulse Orlando shooting survivors (w/video)
MTV's long-running documentary series True Life will debut a special episode featuring survivors of last month's mass shooting that left 49 dead and more than 50 injured at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
The network on Monday released two clips from True Life: We Are Orlando, which premieres at 8 p.m. on Aug. 15 on MTV. Both show Tony Marrero, who survived being shot four times, including once in the back, as he struggles with healing from his physical injuries and the emotional trauma of visiting a memorial to his best friend, Luis Vielma, who died in the attack.
It's a departure from the way that True Life episodes are normally filmed and released, the network said.
"For the first time in the MTV True Life franchise's 18 year history, viewers will meet the subjects and follow their stories as the docuseries is being filmed," a news release said. Starting this week, "MTV will release exclusive videos while production is still happening via MTV's social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat Discover and tumblr."
