Netflix to give us 12 new episodes of 'Black Mirror'
Black Mirror fans, this is the news we've been waiting years for.
Our savior, Netflix, has commissioned House of Tomorrow to produce 12(!) episodes as an original Netflix series. New episodes are in the works as we speak and the show is scheduled to begin production later this year.
Created by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror is a British anthology series that examines the way our society evolves and relies on technology. Think a modern tech mash up of The Twilight Zone and X-Files with George Orwell and Kurt Vonnegut influences.
Each season (series, as they say in the UK) has three almost-movie-length episodes with different casts and stories and sometimes different realities.
It's not just about having a cell phone glued to your palm all hours of the day. Some of the show's realities have humans implanted with storage chips so they can replay memories on their TVs. Others show the speed and ferocity of a world reliant on social media as a means of communication and openness.
Netflix currently has series one and two on its streaming service including fan-favorites ‘Be Right Back' and ‘White Bear' with stars Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) in the recent Christmas special.
Executive producers Brooker and Annabel Jones will continue to serves as producers and showrunners for the new series.
Here's hoping we won't have to wait more than a year for the next dozen episodes.
