New SNL 'Weekend Update' anchor named and it's who?
Saturday Night Live has chosen Colin Jost, the show's head writer, to join Cecily Strong at the "Weekend Update" desk starting March 1, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jost is replacing Seth Meyers, who is departing the show after 13 seasons to take over Jimmy Fallon's spot for his talk show, Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Though Jost isn't a household name, his new gig makes him the third consecutive head writer to take on Weekend Update, following Tina Fey and Meyers, so you this seems to be a tradition that works.
His resume: Jost, 31, first joined the show in 2005 as one its youngerst writers ever, at age 22 fresh out of Harvard where he was president of the Harvard Lampoon (another SNL tradition). He has been head writer at SNL since 2012.
His gossip rag resume: He's the boyfriend of Rashida Jones from Parks and Recreation. They hit it off at Seth Myers wedding.
