New TNT drama 'Claws' set at Manatee County nail salon
A gaggle of back-stabbing heroes at a low-rent nail salon, fighting for clients against a backdrop of drugs, sex and "gangstered-out rednecks" -- totally Florida, right?
Soon you can keep an eye out for all that and more on TNT, as the network has greenlighted the pilot of Claws, an hourlong dramedy starring Emmy nominee Niecy Nash (Getting On, Reno 911!) as the owner of Nail Artisan of Manatee County nail salon.
Produced by Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) and Will McCormack (Will & Grace), the 10-episode first season will debut in 2017.
Other stars in the cast include Harold Perrineau (Lost), Judy Reyes (Scrubs), Karreuche Tran (The Nice Guys), Kevin Rankin (Friday Night Lights), Jack Kesy (The Strain) and Jenn Lyon (Justified). But don't go looking for them around Sarasota or Bradenton. The pilot was shot this fall in New Orleans, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, and it's unclear if they'll pop down for any filming whatsoever.
Still, who can resist the allure of a soapy "Manatee County"-set series on TNT? Especially one featuring a "gangstered-out redneck" (Kesy) running a semi-legal pain clinic whose profits are laundered through the salon? Ora staff that includes a "tenuously sober ex-party girl" and a "mild-mannered preppy who recently served time in prison for identity theft?"
"Claws is wild and hilarious, and we can't wait for viewers to immerse themselves in this fascinating world," TNT executive Sarah Aubrey said in a statement.
A fascinating world -- yep, that sounds like Florida all right.
