Nothing screams ABC Family like a Nicki Minaj sitcom
Nicki Minaj and ABC Family: Two things we never thought we’d write in the same sentence, but here it is.
Nicki Minaj is set to executive produce and appear in an ABC Family comedy series about her life growing up in Queens.
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” the Anaconda rapper said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
Minaj was born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, but moved to the U.S. when she was a child. The show will focus on her immigrant family and the “personal and musical evolution” she experienced in 1990s Queens.
Fun fact: Minaj studied acting at Manhattan’s famed LaGuardia High School and hoped to follow that career path before she blew up as a rapping phenom.
“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke told Deadline. “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Stay tuned to find out if this one makes it past the pilot.
