Pilot news: Fonda, Tomlin team up for Netflix; Kaufman comedy adds Keener
Man, TV is on a roll today! In addition to our first real look at FX's new series Fargo, we just got word about two TV projects definitely worth checking out.
First, there's going to be a new Netflix series Grace and Frankie, and it's going to star 9 to 5 pals Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Together! The streaming service announced today that the half-hour comedy written and created by Marta Kauffman (Friends!) and Howard J. Morris will premiere in 2015 with a first season of 13 episodes. It's about frenemies (Fonda and Tomlin) whose husbands announce they are in love with each other.
Over on the cable TV side of things, we've got some casting news in Charlie Kaufman's (Adaptation, Being John Malkovich) FX pilot Here and Now. The comedy just added Catherine Keener (a Kaufman fave) and Blue Jasmine's sublime Sally Hawkins to the cast as a recurring guest star and series regular, respectively. Plus, the show already stars John Hawkes and Michael Cera as the leads, which sounds just odd enough to be really interesting.
