Pop culture winner and loser of the week, starring Charlie Sheen and earth’s favorite emoji
Forget about The Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. There’s a new non-word in town. For the first time ever, the Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year is an emoji, though we are sorry to report that it is not the brand new taco. Instead, the picture that has officially been dubbed the "Face With Tears of Joy" was selected as the “word that best reflected the ethos, mood, and preoccupations of 2015.” It was a good run, “vape,” but it’s time to hand over the crown.
Charlie Sheen. Let’s discuss. It is a shame that the Two and a Half Men alum contracted HIV four years ago. It is even more sad that he paid more than $10 million to keep his prostitutes quiet. What makes him our loser: that he did hide his diagnosis for so long, especially from his sexual partners, if ex-goddess/girlfriend/porn star Bree Olson is to be believed. What Sheen should have done, according to me, Judgey McJudgerson, is disclose his illness as soon as he was able to come to grips with it, then preach prevention and denounce HIV stigma and discrimination. At least he’s pledging to do that now, sort of, in his own don’t-want-to-be-extorted-anymore kind of way.
