Prepare yourselves: 'Serial' is back with season 2 of its hit podcast
It’s like Christmas morning for podcast nerds: Serial, and that delightful “Mail...kimp?” ad, is back.
Serial debuted in October 2014 and became the fastest podcast to ever reach the 5-million download mark. The This American Life spinoff, hosted by Sarah Koenig, follows one story over the course of each season.
The debut season focused on the murder of Hae Min Lee, a Maryland high school senior. Her boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was arrested for the crime based on the testimony of Adnan’s friend, Jay. And months after the podcast went viral, won a Peabody award and launched a thousand theories about Jay and that Best Buy payphone, Syed was granted a new hearing by a Baltimore circuit court judge.
You can listen online or by downloading or subscribing in the podcast app.
This second season focuses on Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Bergdahl was held captive by the Taliban in Afghanistan for five years and was ultimately freed in exchange for five Guantanamo Bay detainees. But upon returning home, Bergdahl was charged with desertion. Season two promises that listeners will hear what Bergdahl, who has stayed silent since the charges were announced, has to say.
And whether you loved or hated last season’s ending, you can bet that people will be talking about this season – and that new theme song (you can listen to last year’s here).
