Star Wars Week: May the Force be with our fashion choices

Her Universe, CoverGirl, Irregular Choice

Editor's note: With the seventh part in the Star Wars saga, The Force Awakens, arriving in theaters this week, we're celebrating all things geeky from a galaxy far, far away here on the Feed. From helping get you up to speed on what you need to know to offering recipes for a Star Wars marathon and joining the debate on which order to watch the movies in, we've got you covered, rebel scum.

Now, let’s talk fashion.

A long time ago in you-know-where, people dressed like it was the '70s, only robe-ier. Neutrals met floor lengths met plastics met metals. At times, it looked a bit like this, but with a vest or two and much less contouring. (I am aware I have blasphemed.)

Today, in this galaxy, we celebrate the Star Wars franchise in the most American way possible: by purchasing a ridiculous amount of merch, lots of it wearable. Step into a Hot Topic, a department store, a Wal-Mart for the love of Yoda, and you’re bombarded with burnout Star Wars Tees at seemingly every turn. It’s getting old and tired, but still we buy.

In honor of Episode VII, let’s step up our fashion game, shall we? Here are some of our favorite wearable Star Wars things:

Available now in a Walgreens hopefully near you is the new CoverGirl Star Wars makeup collection. I actually did see these items in the flesh, so they are out there. Promise. Pick a side: light or dark, and doll yourself up with luminous lustre or haunting hues. The line features lipstick, nail polish and mascara, all branded in conjunction with our geekdom.

Are you, like me, a fan of super-crazy shoes? Then you need to check out Irregular Choice’s line of Star Wars kicks. The brand collaborated with Disney to come up with some insane heels (and flats for those of you who are anti).

“We’re thrilled with this exciting collaboration, the collection is really stunning and features the most iconic characters from the original trilogy,” said David Lee, Disney’s director of footwear. “We’re sure that Irregular Choice fans and Star Wars fans alike will love the designs.”

With 14 styles to choose from, you can most definitely find a shoe to fit your Star Wars persona. My personal favorites are the dark side platforms, but honorable mention goes to the Chewbacca boots, C-3PO flats and flashing light saber heels.

Last but certainly not least we have Her Universe to fulfill our nerdy needs. Props to fellow Times staffer Chelsea Tatham for alerting me to this website when we were downing Princess Leia cupcakes and Mystery Science Theater-ing The Empire Strikes Back the other night.

Her Universe has myriad styles to suit every style of Star Wars fan. Dresses, hoodies, leggings, the works. I about died when I saw the light saber circle skirt. Her Universe even has an ugly Star Wars Christmas sweater. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR?

In conclusion, I have no idea what I’m going to wear on Thursday night when I see The Force Awakens, but I know that side buns go with everything. Tweet us @TBTimesFeed to show us what you’re wearing on your geeky night out.

P.S. Do yourself a favor and check out this high-fashion Star Wars post. There's Diane Von Furstenberg, people!
