Weekend funny: Emmy-nominated Daily Show pronounces Florida "the worst state" after Zimmerman verdict
Here’s one reason why Comedy Central’s Daily Show racked up six Emmy nominations yesterday: A capacity to hit you where you live and keep you laughing.
That’s why I decided to post the show’s most-excellent takedown of the Sunshine State from Monday’s show. You’ve probably already seen it by now, but interim host John Oliver brought the pain in the wake of Saturday’s verdict acquitting George Zimmerman of murder (feels like it happened a month ago already).
Oliver pronounced our home “the worst state” for failing to convict Zimmerman of any crime in his shooting of unarmed 17-year-old black teen Trayvon Martin. It may be the only time I’ve laughed so hard while watching coverage of this verdict, which some out-and-out racists have used as an excuse to unveil their worst hatreds possible.
(My lowest point, seeing that Pat Buchanan – dropped by MSNBC after publishing a book whose central thesis is that America’s growing racial diversity is comparable to suicide – advise black America it’s real problem isn’t white racism.)
So check it out below and if you live in our wonderful state, try not to take it too hard.
Sometimes the truth hurts more than we’d like to admit.
