Up and Vanished
More than a decade ago, teacher and former beauty queen Tara Grinstead disappeared without a trace. Her cellphone, car and a single latex glove were found at her home in Ocilla, Ga.
Her cold case is the largest in Georgia's history. Up and Vanished dives back into her case by examining old evidence and re-interviewing persons of interest and those closest to Grinstead.
The host, Payne Lindsey, is a documentary filmmaker who turned into an amateur investigator to explore the case. Lindsey reminds listeners that he is not a professional investigator or a journalist. He doesn't necessarily take the same steps as those who formally investigated Grinstead's disappearance. But Lindsey believes the case needs a fresh set of eyes. He hopes that his newness to the case and relative unbiased views will help uncover new information that could lead to finding Grinstead.
It's hard not to compare this podcast with Serial. The single cold case is re-examined every two weeks with fresh interviews and deep research that will have you hooked from the first episode. By the third episode, the podcast was getting a lot of attention from Georgia media and his investigation took off. He added supplemental episodes and he's now working on doing a TV series on the case.
Though he plans to have a dozen or so episodes on Grinstead with shorter "case files" on off weeks, Lindsey's ultimate goal remains clear: uncover something to help find Tara Grinstead.
