What to watch and listen to this weekend: JonBenét Ramsey TV and podcast specials

It's been 20 years since the death of 6-year-old beauty pageant queen JonBenét Ramsey. Two decades later, we still don't know the truth of what happened to her the night of Dec. 26, 1996, or why anyone would want to kill her. The story of her supposed kidnapping and the eventual discovery of her body in the family basement entranced the nation. You still can't walk into a grocery store or gas station and check out the magazine rack without seeing a picture of JonBenét. Her case is one that tops the list of most bizarre and most debated. Naturally, there are a slew of television specials airing this fall that detail the investigation and the exoneration of her parents, who many thought were the culprits behind JonBenet's murder. These are just a few that have already aired and one that premieres this weekend.

The Case Of: JonBenét Ramsey, 8:30 p.m.,CBS, Sept. 18 and 19.
In the two-part special from CBS, the original investigators are paired with new experts to examine evidence using advances in technology and draw new conclusions as to what exactly happened to JonBenét. The recreations of key rooms in the Ramsey house - all set up exactly as they were on the night of her death - are chilling.

Dateline: Who Killed JonBenét?, NBC, stream on
If you're looking for interviews and information from the original investigators from the 1996 case, this special is for you. Former Boulder, Colo., police detective Jane Harmer talks about why she agreed with the indictment of JonBenét's parents but also the district attorney's decision not to pursue charges. Like the rest of the specials, Dateline touts showing never-before-seen case documents and interview tapes.

JonBenét: An American Murder Mystery, Investigation Discovery, watch on
ID's special on JonBenét includes her brother's lost interview, new evidence and other exclusive interviews. The three-part special provides an in-depth examination of evidence and events surrounding the 6-year-old's murder in an attempt to debunk myths and rumors.

The Killing of JonBenét: The Truth Uncovered, A&E, watch through
In A&E's special, you'll get to hear from JonBenét's father, John Ramsey, along with her brother Burke's 1998 interview tape. There's also an analysis from a child psychologist and a sit-down interview with John where he shares diary entries from 20 years ago.

Featured episodes: More about JonBenét Ramsey, just in case the four television specials aren't enough.

Last Podcast on the Left, ep. 167-168, And Hence and The Last Bulb on the Christmas Tree: The guys of Last Podcast on the Left are probably the only ones who could make me laugh during a retelling of a brutal murder of a 6-year-old. If that makes me a bad person, so be it. These three are hilarious. Their hilarity and bluntness bring light to the absurdity of the JonBenét case and the investigation that followed her death. Just some of the ridiculousness they talk about: police not securing the crime scene, the three-page ransom letter and all the clues pointing to her parents.

Sofa King Podcast, Murder and Conspiracy: JonBenét Ramsey: Sofa King Podcast's 90-minute episode on JonBenét doesn't go the typical route of a true crime case. Instead of telling the story of her murder, they discuss the family's background and go into the absurdity of child pageants. They also delve into a popular theory about her death that's popped up in true crime circles in the past two years - that JonBenét never actually died.

The Generation Why, ep. 129, JonBenét Ramsey Case: This one takes a calmer approach to the case, featuring intellectual discussions about the events leading up to her death, the investigation and the theories surrounding the murder. The hosts touch on some of the bizarres circumstances in this case, but go into more detail on why these things are so odd. The episode spend almost two hours talking about the evidence that stands out to the hosts, not just the well-known aspects of the case.
