Where to get a free doughnut for National Doughnut Day
Friday brings the most wonderful food holiday of the year, the day we celebrate my one true love: National Doughnut Day.
The Salvation Army in Chicago founded the holiday in 1938 as a way to pay homage to women who delivered the pastries to World War I soldiers. Actually, the Salvation Army says they're the reason there are doughnuts in America at all. So we ought to say thanks by stuffing our faces with doughnuts, right?
Shops around the country and Tampa Bay will be giving away deep fried balls of doughy goodness on Friday to help you celebrate. Here's where the deals are.
Dunkin' Donuts: The chain (click here for oodles of local locations) will be giving away a free classic doughnut with any beverage purchase. A special Dunkin Snapchat filter will also be available. Click here for more info.
Dough: The bakery at 2602 S MacDill Ave. in Tampa will be giving away one "classic-style" doughnut per person while supplies last on Friday. datzdough.com.
St. Pete Bagel Co.: All three locations (7043 Fourth St. N, St. Petersburg; 11987 Indian Rocks Road, Largo; 4419 66th St., Kenneth City) are giving a glazed doughnut to every person who comes in between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. stpetebagelco.com.
And at Mini Doughnut Factory, 2109 S Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa, instead of offering a deal, the store is giving back by donating a portion of proceeds to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital.
