Winner and loser of the week in pop culture ft. Melissa McCarthy and Tyga
Melissa McCarthy. The Boss star became the first woman to win the Best Comedic Genius Award at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, and she was super humble about the whole thing, giving credit to funny girls who came before her. “In all seriousness, I may be the first woman to win this award, but I am … certainly, certainly not the first one to deserve it,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I don’t know — I think I’m a walking human patchwork of all the remarkable, funny women who I have loved and studied over the years, and I am only here because of Carol Burnett, Jane Curtin, Phyllis Diller, Whoopi Goldberg, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, Lucille Ball, Gilda Radner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Diane Keaton, Tracy Ullman, Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, and my mom … who taught me not to fear being the butt of the joke, taught me not to worry about being likable or perfect, and to lovingly go for the kill.” In other news, McCarthy’s latest flick beat Batman vs. Superman at the box office over the weekend, and the comedian confirmed that she’ll be back for the Gilmore Girls revival. We hereby declare this International Melissa McCarthy Week.
Tyga. The rapper loves to flaunt and gift luxury rides and gets a lot of press because of it. However, the boyfriend of one of those Jenner girls owes Choice Motor Credit $357,350.77 for missing payments on his 2013 Lamborghini Aventador. According to TMZ, the repo man’s been calling, but this is nothing new to Tyga. CMC reclaimed his 2014 Bentley Mulsanne in February and sold it to someone else. The company also is asking that the Make It Work rapper to fork over $91,000 in back payments on that car. Think of all the houses he could have bought us instead.
