Winner and loser of the week in pop culture: Tricked You Into Watching My Video Edition
Iggy Azalea. The rapper and plastic surgery advocate is embroiled in a cheating scandal that’s causing the already-struggling Los Angeles Lakers an unexpected headache. What makes Azalea our winner: her Zen reaction and readiness to capitalize on the alleged transgression. Here’s what happened: Months ago, rookie D’Angelo Russell recorded his teammate, Nick Young, detailing his philandering sexcapades. Young and Azalea are engaged. When the video was leaked, Azalea crafted a relaxed response. “hmmm i see D Angelo Russell is trending... I actually liked his film,” she Tweeted. “ Thanks bro.” She also wrote that she’s “chillin for now,” adding that if it’s true, she’s glad the video came out because, “im not tryna marry a cheater.” The controversy blew up online Wednesday, and Azalea released her music video for Team on Thursday. Savvy.
Jessica Lowndes. The Internet was abuzz Monday over the apparent engagement of Jon Lovitz, 58, and relatively unknown actress Jessica Lowndes, 27. The pair had shared a number of PDA-filled social media posts, a couple of which are mega creepy, and another that includes what appears to be an engagement ring. Lowndes, who starred in CW’s 90210 reboot, started things off by posting a photo of herself riding in “his” Bentley, then quoting a risque “Thai Proverb.” She also posted a photo on Snapchat of Lovitz’s hand resting between her thighs, captioning it, “His hands are wise and tell a thousand stories... #smitten #hatersgonnahate.” It went on and on, but fear not, dear readers. The whirlwind May-December romance was merely a stunt promoting Lowndes’ new music video Deja Vu (remix) in which Lovitz plays a sugar daddy-turned-hospital patient. And it worked because now you know who Jessica Lowndes is and also never to believe a word she says.
