Winner and loser of the week: Prince Harry gives us relationship goals; the internet is getting even scarier
Prince Harry. With this crazy election cycle finally at an end, we thought it best to look across the pond for our winner of the week. Prince Harry, 32, officially confirmed his relationship with 35-year-old Suits actor Meghan Markle while condemning those who have harassed Markle in the press and on social media. A statement released by Kensington Palace on the Prince's behalf said that a "line had been crossed" and that "his girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public-the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments." (Markle's mother is African American.) The strongly worded statement warns people to "pause and reflect before any further damage is done." This is an extremely rare statement from the royals, and Prince Harry's defense of Markle is straight up #RelationshipGoals. While it's a total bummer that Britain's most eligible bachelor had to announce his relationship status with a "stop being sexist and racists" press release, his clap back to the tabloids was awesome. *Wrote this while listening to Salt ‘N' Pepa's Whatta Man*
Post-election Internet. While some have tried to fill social media with positive and uplifting messages following the results of the election, the web has become a pretty scary place. First-person tweets and videos recounting racist behavior and sexual harassment took over this week, with too many horrifying anecdotes to count or confirm. Then there are the memes, trolling comment threads and parody accounts. Where's the dislike button when you need it?
