Sign up extended for Hillsborough County kids basketball league
Hey Hillsborough parents, if you're looking for something cool for your kids ages 7-15 to do this winter,
then here's a suggestion. And registration for it has been extended so you've got more time to sign up.
The Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department is signing up boys and girls for its Winter Hoops Basketball League now through Dec. 2 for a session that runs Jan. 2-March 6. Registration is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the following recreation centers: Northdale, 15550 Spring Pine Drive; Nuccio, 4805 E Sligh Ave.; Westchase, 9791 Westchase Drive; and Winston, 7605 Destin Drive. The cost is $50 and that includes a jersey, mouthpiece and award medal. There will be no more than 2-3 practices a week. Games are only held on Saturdays. All games will be played at All People's Life Center Gym, 6105 E Sligh Ave., and Lake Magdalene Gym, 3110 Clay Mangum Lane.
For more information go to this Web site and scroll down to registration and click view more information. Or you can also call Aileen Henderson at (813) 744-5595 ext. 223.
It's a great way for kids to get exercise and try out a sport in the winter months.

She grew up in St. Petersburg, graduated from the University of Florida journalism school, and even got married at Sunken Gardens. She's one of the few adults we know who actually loves taking her kids to the beach. She has two sons and with 10 years of parenting under her belt, she's starting to feel a little less out of her league. She comes from a large family and loves to debate, so brace yourself when the hot topics come up.

Freelance writer Courtney Cairns Pastor wasn’t so sure about having kids and how she would balance child-rearing with her journalism career. It turned out that her journalism training went to good use. As the mom to a funny, active toddler, she learned to handle him like she did her sources. Never ask yes or no questions (the answer will always be no), get him to be specific (are you crying because you’re wet or your tooth hurts?) and be prepared for anything because no two days are the same. When she’s not playing trucks, Courtney crams for her book club, trains for races and occasionally bursts into showtunes. E-mail her at
