Update: It's a "quality hold" for Girl Scouts' Lemon Chalet Cremes
UPDATE: Leave it to the Girl Scouts to come up with new terminology for a recall. Little Brownie Bakers, the folks who make the scout's cookies, say that it isn't a voluntary recall of the Lemon Chalet Cremes. Instead, it is a "quality hold." Hmmm, the cookies have been sent out. The company, which is encouraging buyers not to eat them because they don't taste good, will replace them. If that isn't the definition of a recall, I'm not sure what is.

Music to whose ears?
I readily admit to buying a lot of stupid and worthless crap over my tenure as a parent. Fad toys that were popular for 8 seconds, expensive video game systems ... Moon Sand. But there is one item that has never crossed my Target cart, and that’s a KidzBop album.
You’re familiar with this little gem -- it’s the CD that features a bunch of unknown children “singing” pop songs, because there’s nothing quite like 6 year olds reminding you that if you liked it you should have put a ring on it. Off key. ... Read more

Oscars for Mommas: Thank goodness 'Up' is nominated
Was just in a conversation on Facebook that somehow wandered into the world of kids movies. My husband and I make no secret that we are huge fans of Phineas and Ferb. We actually watched Bugs Bunny cartoons during one of our first dates. So when I posted a comment wondering if I had seen any of the Oscar-nominated films this year, I thought I had not. ... Busch Gardens to let kids 5 and under in free for rest of 2010
We know the theme park is trying to bring in tots and their parents with the new Sesame Street themed play area. But now they are giving parents even more of an incentive: children ages 5 and under will be able to get in for free for the remainder of 2010. Usually only toddlers ages 2 and under get that freebie. More details to come on how to sign up from the Suburban Diva, Tracey Henry, who is also trying out the new character breakfast this morning.

Lessons learned from case of Delaware pediatrician charged with molesting more than 100 patients
This is a story that would make anyone's skin crawl, not just a parent. A Delaware pediatrician, Dr. Earl Bradley, stands accused of sexually abusing more than 100 patients, some as young as 3 months old.
He is facing a 471-count indictment for his alleged actions. Investigators say they found videotapes he made of his victims -- five of whom appeared to pass out during the attacks, others who were screaming and begging to get out. All but one of the victims were girls. ... Read more

She grew up in St. Petersburg, graduated from the University of Florida journalism school, and even got married at Sunken Gardens. She has two sons and with 10 years of parenting under her belt, she's starting to feel a little less out of her league. She comes from a large family and loves to debate, so brace yourself when the hot topics come up.

Freelance writer Courtney Cairns Pastor wasn’t so sure about having kids and how she would balance child-rearing with her journalism career. It turned out that her journalism training went to good use. As the mom to a funny, active toddler, she learned to handle him like she did her sources. Never ask yes or no questions (the answer will always be no), get him to be specific (are you crying because you’re wet or your tooth hurts?) and be prepared for anything because no two days are the same. When she’s not playing trucks, Courtney crams for her book club, trains for races and occasionally bursts into showtunes. E-mail her at
