Are you and the kids ready for school -- and for Fay?
Have you gotten all the supplies you'll need for your kids for the beginning of the school year? Backpacks, notebook paper, pencils? How about the supplies you weren't expecting you might need -- water, non-perishable food, batteries, flashlights? Yep, Tropical Storm Fay is on a track to have some type of effect on the Gulf Coast and the Tampa Bay area sat the beginning of the week.
So far, school districts in the bay area have not canceled the opening of the school year (it's Monday in Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando; Tuesday in Pinellas). But stay tuned to tampabay.com for updates because you just never know with a storm like Fay, which could become a hurricane by Monday.
Just as the hurricane season was about to open in June, I chatted with Holley Wade, spokeswoman for the Hillsborough County Emergency Management Department, about preparing your kids for big storms. Just make sure that you stay calm so that they don't get excited and scared about the storm. And make sure you have what you need for the season, which doesn't end until Nov. 30.
