Baby Loves Disco Superhero Tour is coming
The baby book wouldn’t be complete without your little one shaking her groove thang, would it? Baby Loves Disco (and parents will too) at this family dance party on Friday at the Don Cesar resort that’s been rocking a tour of Loews hotels around the country. With disco balls, bubble machines and music from the '70s and '80s, the idea is to give parents with kids 7 and younger a fun alternative to the everyday parks, malls and playgrounds. Dress as your favorite superhero. There will be superhero DJs and MCs, dance instruction, giant video screens, contests and secret superhero surprises. It will be $15, $50 four people at the Don CeSar Beach Resort and Spa, 3400 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach. (727) 360-1881. 5-8 p.m. Friday.
We visited a Baby Loves Disco party here in Tampa a few years, back when it was a monthly occurrence. It was a nice balance of adult fun and kids having a blast. The main action happens on the dance floor where young and old boogie down amid bright lights and thumping music, toned down for sensitive ears. Hula hoops, musical instruments and colorful scarves spur the imagination.
After the three hours, tots are happy and tired and ready for something that's music to most parents' ears: a long nap.

Sharon Kennedy Wynne has sunscreen in her blood. She may have been born in Buffalo but she got here as fast as she could, in time for kindergarten. She grew up in St. Petersburg, graduated from the University of Florida journalism school, and even got married at Sunken Gardens. She's one of the few adults we know who actually loves taking her kids to the beach. She has two sons and with 10 years of parenting under her belt, she's starting to feel a little less out of her league. She comes from a large family and loves to debate, so brace yourself when the hot topics come up.

Freelance writer Courtney Cairns Pastor wasn’t so sure about having kids and how she would balance child-rearing with her journalism career. It turned out that her journalism training went to good use. As the mom to a funny, active toddler, she learned to handle him like she did her sources. Never ask yes or no questions (the answer will always be no), get him to be specific (are you crying because you’re wet or your tooth hurts?) and be prepared for anything because no two days are the same. When she’s not playing trucks, Courtney crams for her book club, trains for races and occasionally bursts into showtunes. E-mail her at
