Baby slings hazardous to baby's health? The government warns they could be
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is preparing a warning that babies can suffocate in baby slings. According to an Associated Press story, “In 2008, Consumer Reports raised concerns about the soft fabric slings and some two dozen serious injuries, mostly when a child fell out of them. A follow-up blog warned about a suffocation risk and linked the slings to at least seven infant deaths.” Baby slings have been incredibly popular for parents who want to snuggle their babies close while also having some freedom of movement. But according to AP, "Safety advocates have cautioned that some slings, where the baby falls into a curved or "C-like" position inside the sling, can lead to suffocation by restricting the baby's breathing." That's pretty scary. Stay tuned as this story develops.
