Brangelina adds to baby-name boggle

Boggle Brangelina07 Remember the game Boggle? You shake up a tumbler full of letters and try to make as many words as you can out of the lot you are left with. I'm thinking that's where celebrities are getting their baby names these days. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's twins, Vivienne Marcheline (beautifully named after her mother) and Knox Leon (huh??) were born on Saturday. They join sisters Shiloh and Zahara and brothers Pax and Maddox. Notice there's an X at the end of all the boys names. Must have been a pesky X on the Boggle board that day. The girls all had to work around an H in their names, it seems.

I'm fascinated with how and why people give their kids the names they do. As I've noted here before, celebrities seem to make their kids an extension of their own bottomless need for attention. Because nothing gets bloggers going like a funny name (guilty!). So when Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban give birth to Sunday Rose, I notice. By the way Sunday Urban sounds like a radio-friendly dance music mix.

Hunky actor Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend Camila Mom_matthew Alves turned to the Bible to find their newborn son's name, calling him Levi Alves McConaughey. The baby dude got the name "Levi"  because it is another name for the apostle Matthew in the Bible and his time of birth "represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in the Bible: 'If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light'," he said to Us magazine in an oddly deep moment. I don't know what that verse means but thinking about it makes my head hurt.

Notice how even the fairly normal names get a slight twist so they are vaguely familiar but in no danger of having several Levis or Apples to compete with in kindergarten.

If you want a good laugh check the ever-increasing tally of really bad baby names here.
