Breastfeeding takes a hit -- again
No matter how many times you say it -- breastfeeding is a natural and bonding act between a mother and child -- some folks still don't get it. So the headline, "Udderly Icky" on Page Six about Gossip Girl star Kelly Rutherford should come as no surprise. It seems the Sixers think that Rutherford should not be chatting about the fact that she still breastfeeds her son Hermes, who is 2.
Now, I might not be in the camp that wants to breastfeed more than a year, but to each her own. And no less than the World Health Organization recommends it. How long she breastfeeds her child and whether she wants to discuss it is up to her. Anyone who wants to can listen. And the fact that she points to the benefits of breastfeeding for herself does not mean she is just doing it to be thin.
What's really "udderly icky" is how women are still belittled and mocked for making this choice. And every time someone describes it as being a bad thing, maybe there is one more Momma who decides that doing something that is really good for her child may not be best for her.
