Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston engaged again
It's official, at least according to Us Weekly magazine: Bristol Palin, who was pregnant during her mother's vice presidential campaign, and Levi Johnston, the father of her child, have announced in a cover story that they are engaged to be married again. The pair were engaged before but parted ways. Then Johnston sowed some wild oats (including posing for Playgirl magazine) and Palin did a guest shot on The Secret Life of an American Teenager. But in deciding on custody of their son, 18-month-old Tripp, the two got cozy again and are now engaged. As you can see from the quote on the cover, Bristol is hoping that her mom will be okay with all of this.
So what does the elder Palin have to say?
Now, we Mommas know what Sarah Palin is probably thinking: Run Bristol, run! But for the record, Palin and her husband Todd said in a statement to the Today show that they want what's best for their children and that Bristol believes in "redemption and forgiveness." And that is true, we do want what's best for our kids, even when we don't agree with the choices they make. But we Mommas know that even when they do something that we think is really stupid, we're there for them.

Freelance writer Courtney Cairns Pastor wasn’t so sure about having kids and how she would balance child-rearing with her journalism career. It turned out that her journalism training went to good use. As the mom to a funny, active toddler, she learned to handle him like she did her sources. Never ask yes or no questions (the answer will always be no), get him to be specific (are you crying because you’re wet or your tooth hurts?) and be prepared for anything because no two days are the same. When she’s not playing trucks, Courtney crams for her book club, trains for races and occasionally bursts into showtunes. E-mail her at
