Celebrate Frosty's 40th birthday

Mom_frosty Good thing he's already bald. Frosty that iconic snowman who melted only to be reconstituted by Santa Claus, turns 40 this year. (If you watch Phineas and Ferb's Christmas Vacation on the various Disney channels, they do a funny take on the snowman).

Anywho, his birthday isn't lost on the DVD industry that is marketing it to nostalgic Gen X parents who remember Frosty as well as Herbie the elf who wanted to be a dentist, and Burgermeister Meisterburger's grumpy temperament.

To help Frosty and his original fans deal with their midlife crises, Classic Media is inviting kids and families to “chill out” with Frosty , Rudolph, and Santa with the ultimate holiday DVD gift set: The Original Christmas Classics Limited Keepsake Edition. It's on sale for half off at Amazon.

The box set contains seven of the most beloved holiday TV specials of all time, including the Rankin/Bass classics “Frosty the Snowman,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town” and “The Little Drummer Boy,” among others.

Not a bad deal for $39.98. When we were kids it was easy to catch them on network TV. But now they're mostly limited to cable. So here's a way to revisit the Island of Misfit Toys.

Now you can buy those DVDs and keep them for posterity, or you can gather your clan around the TV tonight and watch the big snowman say "Happy Birthday" when the magician's hat brings him to life. The fun starts at 8 p.m. on CBS.
