Disney livens up waiting line for Haunted Mansion
As someone who detests waiting in lines at theme parks, I was very happy to see the news that Disney World's Magic Kingdom has added some features to make the waiting line much easier to tolerate at one of the more popular attractions, the famous Haunted Mansion.
The new queue is currently in a soft-opening phase. That means it may not be open when you’re there. It's tentatively slated for a grand opening at the end of the month. So if it is open when you visit, you'll find statues that talk, an interactive crypt that plays music when you touch it, more of those funny tombstones ("Dear Departed Brother Dave: He chased a bear into a cave") an organ that surprises guests with bursts of air and mist as the keys are played.
It's a trend we are seeing at a lot of theme parks lately, where the wait is usually much longer than the actual ride. Manta at Sea World, for example has real aquariums in the queue and the Hogwarts Castle at Universal entertains Harry Potter fans with elaborate settings in the queue, from Dumbledore's office to a charms class with the actors from the movie present as holographic images.
And check out the photos from this Disney blogger's visit to the interactive queue for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction in Fantasyland. She says some families have actually been passing up the attraction’s Fast Pass in order to walk through this area.
How many other attractions are in dire need of queue improvement to make the wait more tolerable?
