Don't put off school shots or physicals any longer

ImmunizeThis is gonna be a straight-up public service announcement: If you've been putting off getting your child his shots or a physical for school because you fear the cost or inconvenience, you now have no excuses. We've rounded up all of the places where you can schedule a free appointment to get this mandatory chore out of the way if your child is starting school for the first time or is new to a bay area school. (You, of course, are also free to use your personal pediatrician or physician, but that's your call.)

Here are the basic rules of immunizations offered by local health departments:

  • The shots are free for children up to age 18 at county health department clinics (the ones listed  below are all free)
  • Department of Health Form 680 documents the immunizations and is required for children to attend school in Florida. Only your doctor or someone from the health department can sign it.

If you don't see a date, that means the clinic operates regular business hours, but please call ahead to make sure they are taking walk-ins or making appointments. Here's a breakdown by county:

Pinellas
(School starts Aug. 19)

Now, there are people who do not believe in immunizations of any kind for themselves or their children. This site gives information on exemptions in Florida and links to current state laws.
