First Halloween -- no costume for my baby!
As the temperature drops and we begin what amounts to fall in Florida, one thing is clear: My household has started a season of firsts -- Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's -- for my 8-month-old daughter. I aim to keep it simple and strike a balance between fun for my baby girl and common sense.
First up, Halloween. Now, hold your daggers, crafty moms: My daughter will NOT have a costume. Despite all the well-meaning nudges from friends and family, I’ve decided not to get her one. Sure, she'd be cute, like this kid in the giraffe costume. But she’s a baby! Candy is not even on her approved list of foods.
And we are not going out trick or treating or participating in the activities at our church. Instead, we plan to stay at home and hand out candy to neighborhood kids. I’m sure my daughter will enjoy looking at the gaggles of costumed kids who come to the front door.
Still, even with what I thought was rock solid no-costume resolve, I felt guilty earlier this week and went scouting at Target. I found nothing appropriate for a wee one. And I don’t sew (these babies probably wish this woman didn't either). So there. We'll sit this one out.
