Free Kaitlyn on 'America's Got Talent!'
America, enough is enough. I don't think I can take much more of 4-year-old Kaitlyn Maher on America's Got Talent, which continues tonight on NBC. Please don't vote for her this next round. She's already lasted way too long.
Don't get me wrong. She's adorable. Her singing is adorable, and I'm amazed at how she remembers all the words to her songs. (Here's video of Kaitlyn singing) But the poor thing doesn't belong on a talent show for adults, yet alone in the Top 10. As a parent of a young child, it seems like torture to me.
The girl looks frightened standing on the big stage all alone with a microphone, motionless except for her mouth. She barely musters a smile when she's done, and when the judges comment on her performance, all she does is repeat "Thank you, thank you," like a programmed robot. She definitely doesn't look like she's having fun, even if she is.
The winner of the competition will get $1-million and a long-term contract to do a show in Las Vegas. Like she needs it. I'm sure her parents would be happy to accept the money on her behalf, but headlining a Vegas show? What about kindergarten and learning to count blocks?
Kaitlyn has had a great run on America's Got Talent, and I'm guessing she'll go on to be a great singer someday. But take the advice of judge Piers Morgan, who suggested last week, and got a lot of flak for it, that the time has come for her to move on and let the more experienced contestants duke it out. Spend time with your dollies, Kaitlyn, not Jerry Springer and the rest of the Got Talent gang.
