Whoa, Momma!

Get your red on

I'm not sure how it happened but one of my favorite colors is red. With two boys in my house, I have gravitated a little more toward primary colors, maybe more than I should. But on Friday, it'll be good for me to wear my favorite color. And Mommas, you should find something red too.

Mom_toniFebruary is American Heart Month and the American Heart Association is urging everyone to Go Red For Women, the AHA's national campaign to make women aware of their risk of heart disease and learn how to make heart-healthy choices every day. And to make a statment, wear red Friday on National Wear Red Day.

(Here's a little bonus for you: If you wear red into Macy's through Sunday, you can save an extra 20 percent off select purchases (15 percent online). If you forget your red, you'll still get the 20 percent off if you buy a Red Dress pin for $2). And there are other offers out there for going red. Click here for details.

Cardiovascular disease kills more women than the next five causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer, according to the AHA. So it's important that you keep your heart healthy not just for yourself, but for your family as well. The American Heart Association offers these tips for busy Mommas on the go to stay healthy:

Plan meals in advance: The AHA Web site has a number of heart-healthy recipes and an online grocery list builder to make sure you get the right ingredients.

Physical activity time: Make sure you set this up on a daily basis, if it's just walking around the block a couple of times. Or bring out your exercise DVDs and get cracking.

Run up and down the stairs: This will get your heart pumping.

Walk: Park farther from your destination and walk when doing errands. Join a walking group or ask friends to join you in daily walking.

Playtime: Take your kids to the park and identify play time activities that help keep you fit.

TV time: Don't use this as down time. While Jack Bauer is making the bad guys pay on 24, you can exercise.
