Go ahead, let the kids play in the mud
Extreme Mud Wars are coming! This wildly popular day of rolling in a mud pit and slinging dirt returns to Spa Beach in St. Petersburg, this time for four days and with a beer tent on the weekend for adults. More than 600 people competed last year in a series of events including obstacle course, joust pit, belly bumper pit, mud tug-of-war, football, the eliminator, dodge ball and ball crawl through a maze. A minimum of 5,000 sandbags, 10 eight-ton dump trucks of soil and eight fire hoses will create this messy fun.
The adult team spots are sold out, but there are still spots available for teens in grades 6-12. Even if you don't have a team you can still watch. Kids willl be playing in the mud Wednesday (for city recreation camps) but Thursday is open to any and all walk-ups. The cost is $50 per team and the team has to have a minimum of 10 players and at least four girls on the team. It runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, with registration opening up at 9 a.m. Or you can call ahead to register at the city's TASCO office at (727) 892-5060.
The adult competitions this weekend are at Spa Beach at the Pier approach, 615 Second Ave. N, St. Petersburg. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday.
