Whoa, Momma!

Go Mommas, to Mamma Mia

I had one of the absolute best girls night out in a long time on Wednesday seeing the amazingly infectious movie version of the Broadway hit Mamma Mia. And I'm not even an ABBA fan!

Part of the reason I went was to support another "women's movie" so maybe Hollywood will stop thinking it's cute that the chicks want something besides comic book characters to watch on screen. I rarely see a movie the first weekend out, but I made it a point of being at Sex and the City the first weekend and I tried to do the same here. I knew it would be light fun but oh Mamma Mia, my my. How could I resist you?

Mammamia_4 This is a cream puff of a movie. Light, sweet, sinfully over-decorated and I may not be able to stop at just one showing. And I'm happy to report that, like SATC, the chicks are ringing up the cash registers and breaking records, making this the biggest opening weekend for a musical ever.

This scene, above, of Meryl Streep leading the women of the village, Pied Piper-like, to the shoreline kicking up their heels to Dancing Queen like it's a manifesto of sisterhood is enough to plump up even the most sundried hearts. Go see it with some girlfriends. You'll thank me for it.
