Great idea! A financial camp for teens
I love, love, love this idea from the Hillsborough County Extension office: a financial camp for teens, ages 13-16, that features hands-on learning activities dealing with credit, banking, car buying, and job searches and interviewing. They are also throwing in fun afternoon field trips like bowling, visit MOSI and play miniature golf. We are talking about teenagers after all.
But I really hope anyone out there with the resources copies this idea and spreads it far and wide. The financial illiteracy in this country is a big reason we are coming out of one of the worst recessions in history.
Here's what you need to know if you want to sign up your free-spending teen for this camp:
The Money Adventures camp will take place June 20 – 24, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Hillsborough County Extension Office, 5339 County Road 579, Seffner, 33584. A discounted registration of $22 is offered to those who register by June 6. Regular registration is $30, due no later than June 13. The registration fee covers all field trips and lunches. For more information, contact Kelli Serio at (813) 744-5519 x 110, SerioK@hillsboroughcounty.org or visit http://hillsborough.extension.ufl.edu.
Registration Deadline: June 13
So kudos to Hillsborough County Extension, in partnership with United Way of Tampa Bay, for offering this potentially life-changing camp for teens. I hope more will follow your lead. By the way, any thought of a camp for parents?
