Harry Potter fans rejoice: Wizarding World of Harry Potter to open Spring 2010
Mommas, start booking your rooms and travel now. Just in time for spring break, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be opening at Universal Orlando in Spring 2010. Yes, it was announced Tuesday that the world of Harry and pals (and his enemies) will be coming to life on more than 20 acres of Universal property. And it won't just be rides and rollercoasters.
This will be a sort of theme park within a theme park in which fans can immerse themselves in Harry's world. There will be familiar spots (Honeydukes sweets shop, Zonko's Joke Shop, the Three Broomsticks pub) and new thrills (a twin high-speed rollercoaster called the Dragon Challenge which contains elements of a Triwizard Tournament and a more family-friendly ride called the Flight of the Hippogriff) to keep fans on the edge of their seats. At Dervish and Banges, a shop that sells magical equipment, you'll also find your very own magic wand. And the coolest part of all might be within Hogwarts Castle where visitors can be immersed in Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, in which Universal officials said that new technology would bring the characters to life.
No word yet on whether Harry himself Daniel Radcliffe would be on hand for the festivies. But Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, was at the media Web conference today to announce the date for the opening. Felton said he will be most excited when the attraction is complete because everything will be real and when you look behind a building there won't just be scaffolding like you find on movie sets.
Whew! More details to come. Seems like tickets for this could be an awesome holiday gift this year.
