Is it right to hate the octuplet mom?

Octupletmom In one of our recent blog posts here on Whoa, Momma! I threw in that it's starting to feel like we are picking on the mentally ill. Even her father, who will appear on Oprah's Tuesday show says that he questions his daughter's "mental situation". This woman has obvious issues. It's her doctor we should be hating. For greed, he ignored his own specialty's guidelines and now 8 children will likely suffer.

Now I read that she and her publicist have gotten death threats, and I think it's really gone too far. Hate the system, but focus your rage on the players who profited, I say.

The L.A. Times is reporting from unnamed sources that her doctor now has a patient carrying quads who has no insurance. Wow. Just wow. I hope that's not true.

The American Society of Reproductive Medicine said it is also examining the doctor's practice. Although it appears Michael Kamrava violated professional standards, there are no laws that limit the number of embryos that can be transferred in a fertility procedure.

I don't want to sound like I'm letting her off easy. After all, she has put up a Web site asking for money. I just think the larger issue needs to be explored. Unlike Europe, we have a system that doesn't limit the number of embryos a doctor is allowed to transfer. And that just allows for abuses.
