A kid's point of view from an F school
This opinion piece by Nathaniel French is a must read, in my opinion, for parents trying to make sense of the FCAT and what a school's letter grade means. Just last week, the state of Florida released this year's results and Gibbs High School became Pinellas County's first F high school.
But to read Nat's account, there are teachers who notice and nourish bright young minds, bringing in college textbooks or nurturing musical talent off the clock for free. It is really refreshing getting a kid's point of view of all this and his excellent commentary confirms my suspicion and hope that great teachers are still performing miracles in even the toughest schools. Hats off to you all.
