Kids trash a classroom: What would you do?
Editors at TampaBay.com report here that over the weekend, three boys between the ages of 8 and 12 were caught vandalizing a school's portable classrooms. Vandalizing is too mild a word. They trashed the place.
In three portable classrooms, Winter Haven police said, furniture and electronics were found overturned, books and papers strewn across the floor and paint sprayed across walls, whiteboards, televisions and furniture.
The three boys' parents were called to the school, and police said all three were taken into custody by Winter Haven Police and taken to the Polk County Juvenile Assessment Center. The boys were charged with four counts of burglary and felony criminal mischief, authorities said in a news release.
OK, it's worst nightmare time: What would you do if this were your child? Do the police have to be involved or is this something the parents and the school can handle?
My first instinct would be to set the boy to work cleaning up the mess and then work out a schedule with the school every day before and after school when he could do chores there to work off the cost of the damage.
