Laurie Berkner's coming to town!
No, she's not Santa but to the toddler set, she might as well be. The Laurie Berkner Band is coming to Ruth Eckerd Hall on Feb. 22. Tickets for the concert go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9. Now, Berkner's music is not just for sitting and listening to. I remember many days getting up to dance with my sons to We are the Dinosaurs, which you can see below.
Berkner, a former preschool teacher who performs with bandmates Susie Lampert and Adam Bernstein, was called "a kind of sippy-cup Sheryl Crow" by Time magazine. When you hear her indie-rock grooves, the comparison will make lots of sense. Her music is fun for kids and their parents, like that of They Might Be Giants.
Tickets for the 2 p.m. show are $35 and $25 and can be bought at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office, 1111 McMullen Booth Road in Clearwater; by calling (727) 791-7400; or by logging onto www.rutheckerdhall.com. The box office is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Prepare to get your dancing shoes on. You won't want to sit down.
