Whoa, Momma!

A little you and me time

Jet_2 Last year, I won a trip for two to Jamaica. It is non-transferable, and I must take it by June 30 or forfeit the prize. In this, the tightest of economic times for my family, the trip is a godsend. But it’s a trip for two, not the threesome that we’ve become since our daughter was born earlier this year.

After much debate, my husband and I decided to leave our daughter at home. She could take the flight on my lap. But we worried about putting a 4-month-old through the rigors of international travel. So, just like that, she’s staying home with my parents for five days. It could be a good thing. My husband and I need this time to reconnect and rediscover who we were before the baby pushed him way down on my list of priorities.

I get the feeling that nothing will prepare me for the physical separation from my little girl. I’ve never spent more than a few hours away from her. I will try to give myself permission to have fun and think of her only a few times a day. Fat chance. I’m on my way out to buy a whopper of a calling card.
