Miley's dad defends (?) her 'pole dance'

BillyraycyrusAP Billy Ray Cyrus has finally decided to say something about the controversy over the "pole dance" his 16-year-old daughter Miley performed at the Fox Teen Choice Awards earlier this month.

“You know what? I just think that Miley loves entertaining people,” Billy Ray told Access Hollywood. “She loves singing (and) songwriting.” (Uh, wait. Did he defend it or bat it away?)

So, dad, what did you think about your daughter's pole dance? Didn't it make you cringe just a little bit, the way it did all the rest of us parents?

Nope. Billy Ray says she should just do what she wants, and block out any negativity.

“I always tell her to love what you’re doing and stay focused for the love of the art and not worry so much about opinion,” he said. (Art? That's what that was?)

Maybe there's something to be said for a parent sticking up for his kid, no matter what. But you have to wonder, too, if this was just a cynical way for the Cyrus house to keep Miley in the public eye and selling her products. And that would make Billy Ray just as bad as the other celebri-moms and celebri-dads turning their kids out for cash, like Jon & Kate, Octomom and the rest. Kids are kids, folks, not ATMs.
