Need a parents night out for Valentine's?

penguin_love.jpgI was very surprised to hear from our friends at the Lowry Park Zoo that virtually no one has signed up for their Parent’s Night Out next week, and it's Valentine's Day weekend no less. I have often hesitated to even mention when the zoo offers these outings because they fill up so fast that readers get frustrated.  So here's the deal:

Valentine’s Weekend Parent’s Night Out
Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb.12 from 4:30-10:00 p.m.
The Zoo School at Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is offering “Parent’s Night Out” professional child care service from 4:30-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday of Valentine's weekend for children ages 3-12 (younger children must be potty trained) at the Zoo School.  Price is $30 for the first child and $10 each additional sibling. Zoo School will supply the entertainment, pizza, drinks and peace of mind so parents can enjoy the evening out. Advanced registration is required. Visit the Zoo School registration page, then choose “Register for Programs & Classes,” then select “Parent’s Night Out.”

The child care service is designed to accommodate parents attending the zoo's enormously popular Wild at Heart sessions, but it is not a requirement for parents to stay at the Zoo. Wild at Heart takes a light-hearted view of love in the animal kingdom. This sixth annual tour and progressive dinner will entertain guests with interesting stories about the pairing, partnering and mating habits of our animal residents. Guests are welcomed with romantic refreshments and up-close animal encounters, where they will proceed to various animal habitat areas stopping for salads, candlelight dinner and dessert.  The event is open bar. Multiple tours are offered each night of the event, lasting approximately 3.5 hours.  Saturday's 5 and 6 p.m. sessions are full, but there are Friday sessions and a limited number of spaces available later Saturday. Reservations are required.  Tickets are $55 per person; Annual Zoo Pass members receive a discount ($5 off or $50 per ticket).

Questions? Call (813) 935-8552 ext 268.

A zoo spokeswoman tells me that registration normally closes a week in advance, but if they have the minimum number signed up, they will generally leave it open for a few extra days.
