New Dora the Explorer: She's a big girl now!
Finally, a few weeks after raising parents' fears about what the new Dora the Explorer would look like as a tween, here she is.
Pretty, huh? The big head and bowl haircut are gone and she's wearing a pretty tunic with leggings and ballet flats. Pretty fashionable and a look that many tweens employ.
She's not nearly as scary as some Mommas thought she might be. I think maybe Nickelodeon and Mattel knew that they would get lots of publicity out of releasing a silhouette that left to the imagination what her new look might be.
Now we know that the biggest fear wasn't what she would look like. Some parents still wonder if Dora will be too worried about fashion or boys to be her same old adventurous self. The folks at Mattel and Nick promise the new Dora will still have many of the good character traits of the preschool Dora: Says Leigh Anne Brodsky, president of Nickelodeon Viacom Consumer Products: "The Dora that we all know and love is not going away."
Yes she is. But we all grow up. You can't be 5 forever -- even if Dora stayed that way for 10 years. It's now up to parents to decide if their little girls should still play with her.
Oh, and still no word on Boots.
