No money for this holiday, just your time
Sunday is National Kids Day, a day set aside since 1994 for adults to spend time with children and let kids be kids. The premise of the holiday rests with research that shows children who spend “meaningful” time with adults are healthier and happier than those who don’t. The holiday was created by Kids Peace, a 125-year-old organization that bills itself as a national children’s crisis charity.
And because mothers and fathers have a holiday, why not kids?
Organizers are calling for “active participation” by kids and adults. Translation: Turn off the television; forget about movies and video games; and no texting, please!
Suggested activities include: scrap booking, a family scavenger hunt, playing checkers or organizing a neighborhood carnival. Enjoy the day just being Mommas and Poppas with your kiddos.
