No more waiting for Dumbo? My Fantasy(land) comes true

You’d be hard-pressed to find many complaints at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, but you might hear a few grumbles if you’ve ventured anywhere near Dumbo The Flying Elephant ride on a busy Saturday afternoon when wait times are seemingly interminable.

But dreams really do come true because the House of Mouse has decreed that there will be no more waiting for Dumbo. Or at least while you wait for your turn to board the magical flight, you and your children will be busy playing midway games under a circus big top.

Under a new three-year renovation project, Fantasyland will undergo the largest expansion in the park’s history, Disney officials told mom bloggers attending the Social Media Moms gathering at the theme park last week (they broke the news last year but we all probably were busy with the beginning of school). The Dumbo ride will soon increase to two attractions, and while guests wait, they can play midway games and other fun-filled distractions under a large "stylized" tent. You can see it below:

After that announcement, my mind sort of atrophied much like my limbs and left hip have after spending much of the decade in that particular line. But here are some other planned Fantasyland improvements: more restaurants, rides and attractions featuring the Disney Princesses in their own themed villages. Princess Aurora will have her own Sweet Sixteen birthday party that she missed while she slept and Belle will tell enchanted tales to guests who have just walked through a magic mirror. Ariel and other friends of the Little Mermaid will have their own attraction you can ride through under the sea.

Unfortunately, the wait for our lesser wait will last a bit longer. While ground-breaking for the expansion is expected later this year, the project won’t be complete until 2013.
