Because I have two boys, I've got lots of soccer and baseball cleats in many sizes lying around my house. So I'm guessing that anyone who has dancers in their house may have a similar amount of dance shoes. If you've been wondering what to do with those, here's an idea. Dance instructor Leslie Case, who is heading to Haiti on July 5 to teach dance at the Institution Univers in Ouanaminthe, is collecting dance shoes for her students. "The children in Haiti come from conditions of extreme poverty,'' said Case, who has been dancing since she was 6. "If they have shoes at all, it is only the one pair they use to wear to school.'' All sizes are needed as are shoes for all styles of dance, including tap, jazz and ballet. And if you have any leotards or other dancewear to donate, Case would love that too. Drop off your donations at Bay City Ballet, 1715 S Missouri Ave., Largo; and On Pointe Dancewear and More, 2113 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. You can also email Case at firstname.lastname@example.org, and she will pick up donations. It's a win-win: You'll be helping the kids in Haiti and you won't have to trip over those old dance shoes anymore.
