Whoa, Momma!

Road trip update: We survived the ride

Nearly 1,200 miles, 12 hours and 1 unexpected fever later, we arrive in Frankfort, Mich., with fewer scars than we expected. Surprisingly, we had 0 accidents, 0 tantrums and 0 "someone save me" moments:
The night before: Good news! When I go to check in for our flight, our seats are reassigned so we are seated 2 and 2 in back-to-back rows. Bad news! Two-year-old suddenly sick and waking up every 15-30 minutes until 2 a.m.! That 5:30 alarm clock comes way too soon.
7:30 a.m.: Catch a ride to the airport from my husband's mom. All smiles despite the sleepless night!
12:20 p.m.: Arrive in Detroit, hike across the airport for our luggage and then hike to the rental car place. Little one has black circles under her eyes, is listless and oh wait, is that a fever? Bingo!
Img_3725 2:42 p.m.: After taking time for a sitdown lunch, we begin our 4- to 5-hour trek north with a blessing: the 2-year-old finally falls asleep. Me, too.
4:24 p.m.: Everyone is awake and we're jamming to Human League on the radio.
5 p.m.: My 7-year-old starts whining when she realizes we won't be at Napa & Namma's house at 5; what we said was it could take 5 hours. Closest thing to a breakdown all day.
7:10 p.m.: We arrive mostly in one piece, surprised at how smoothly things went. It took nearly this long to get to Italy, but sure took a lot less out of us.
9:15 p.m.: My little one is totally sick, possibly in need of antibiotics, wiped out from her long, restless day, but still puts a smile on for her Mommy. So worth it all.
