Sarah Palin: A Momma on the GOP ticket
Wow! Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska has just been named to be the running mate for Republican presidential hopeful John McCain. Whatever your political leanings, you have to admit that in November, something historic is going to happen in this country. Either we will elect our first African-American president in Barack Obama or we will have the first woman elected to be just a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Back to Palin. If you don't know much about her, as probably much of the nation does not, she is a married mother of five children who range in age from 19 years to 4 months -- Track, 19; Bristol 17; Willow 14; Piper, 7, and Trig, who was born with Down's syndrome. She and her husband knew this before he was born, but she has a strong anti-abortion background. "We understand that every innocent life has wonderful potential," Palin told the Associated Press earlier this year in describing what she and her husband had confronted.
Talk about a multitasking Momma: She has been in the governor's office for less than two years, after serving as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a town of about 6,500. And at 44, she is the youngest candidate on either ticket.
Whatever the outcome in November, this Momma has made history.
