A service to remember our lost angels

We here at Whoa, Momma! know the joy of being a parent. Those first moments after the baby is handed to you, the excitement of seeing that first smile, the first words, the first steps.

Last year, Times Mom Amy Hollyfield wrote about a miscarriage she had about 11 years before. "The miscarriage comes up for me at random times," she wrote. "Like this week, when I realized that child would be turning 11 soon. Or at the doctor's office, when a form requires me to say how many times I've been pregnant and how many live births I've had. Three and two, a disparity that always catches me."

Amy wrote about how there is no need to feel alone because this tragedy occurs in 10 to 25 percent of all pregnancies. While we often suffer in silence, there is no need to do that. If you have ever experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death, St. Joseph's Women's Hospital is inviting you to a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the lobby of the hospital, 3030 W Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Tampa. This service is open to all members of the family, including children, and families are encouraged to bring a small photo or memento to share.

There will be a reception with refreshments immediately after the service.  Call (813) 872-2930 to RSVP.

If you go, make sure to look around at the different types of women who all have been touched by this unthinkable horror. And then remember that you are not alone.
